Coffee Time: Preparing For Graduation

I currently just have one exam left in under a week, then I've finished everything in terms of my work for my degree. I have applied for a postgraduate course, providing I reach a certain mark. But one part that is fun to sort out is my graduation. Let's face it, this is what we've all been working for!

Some Questions

Firstly, it's important to ask yourself a few questions after you've registered for your graduation - and bought any tickets for parents etc.

  1. Where is it?
  2. How long is the ceremony, etc?
  3. What are you going to wear?
  4. What to you need to bring with you?
  5. What are you doing for the rest of the day?

I'm going to be honest. I focused on question (3) a long time before I registered for my graduation!

Where Is It?

My graduation will be on campus, I live close to campus - and we'll have parking included. So I know I don't have to worry about walking far in my shoes, or bringing a cardigan.
I graduate in July, so I'm hoping the weather will be fine for it!

But if you're not sure, check! Every graduation is slightly different and just make sure that you're prepared for everything.

How Long Is The Graduation?

How long are you going to be sat actually graduating? Is there anything else you need to go along to? You might receive this information in drips, just pop it in your diary as you're going along so you don't lose track of everything.

What Are You Going To Wear?

Let's face it. This is the one we're actually interested in!

I bought a shin length dress which has quite a high neck. I played it pretty conservative, the last thing I want to worry about is outfit mishaps. But I'd just advice your dress to be work appropriate
You'll be spending the day with your parents and lecturers, you'll take pictures that will end up framed in your house for a few decades.

Don't use today to do anything crazy. Don't do anything that might dated badly. Stick to something classic - think Audrey Hepburn like inspirations!

And if possible, go for at least knee length or close in length.
Check your university dress code for graduating and make sure your dress conforms to that!

What Do You Need To Bring With You?

Try and keep it minimal! Stick to the basics and get your parents to carry some ;)
Just don't carry a load of unnecessary things that you have to worry about later... I'll be posting a "what's in my bag?" style post for this closer to my own graudation!

The Rest of The Day?

Graduation isn't that long. It's only going to be around an hour. But your parents or someone has likely come up for it. So come up with some sort of plan of action for the rest of the day. Remember if you're outside, come up with a back-up in case it rains!

You might want to go out to dinner? Considering you're all dressed up for the occasion anyway, I'm personally going to be going out for mine. Just keep an eye on your timings and things!

I'll be posting this as well nearer the time, and how to pick a restaurant! I'm not sharing mine until I've booked my table as well ;) Not letting you all steal my resaurant on me! :P

Anyway, if anyone has exams or coursework still to hand in... Good luck! :D And get off the Internet and back to work. I hope you all have a great day, and I'll be back with more graduation posts soon!
